1. Link YouTube to Google Ads

Here's a simpler version:

To advertise your YouTube channel or videos on Google Ads, you first need to link your YouTube account. This integration can greatly boost your channel's visibility. Here's how to do it:

  • Sign in to Google Ads: Log in to your Google Ads account.
  • Access linked accounts: Go to “Tools and Settings” and select “Linked Accounts.”
  • Link YouTube: Click on “Details” under YouTube and follow the instructions to link your channel.

Linking your YouTube channel to Google Ads lets you use powerful advertising tools, target specific audiences, and analyze ad performance directly in Google Ads.

2. Create a Well Structured Campaign

To make your YouTube ads more effective, you need a well-organized campaign. Here's a simple guide:

  1. Choose an Objective: Select “Awareness and Consideration” as your campaign objective.
  2. Set a Goal: Pick “Video” as your campaign goal.
  3. Select a Campaign Subtype: Choose the subtype that fits your goals. Here are the options:
    • Video Views: Get views and engagement from people interested in your products or brand. Your ads can appear as skippable in-stream, in-feed, and Shorts ads.
    • Video Reach: Reach a wide audience and pay for every 1,000 impressions.
    • Ad Sequence: Show ads in a specific order to individual viewers.
    • Audio: Use audio-based ads to reach your audience.
    • YouTube Subscriptions and Engagements: Increase subscriptions and engagement on your YouTube channel.

Choosing the right campaign subtype is key to achieving your marketing goals effectively.

3. Take Advantage of the Promotion Area in YouTube Studio

YouTube Studio has a special area for promoting your videos. Here's how to use it:

  • Promotions Tab: In YouTube Studio, find the Promotions tab. This lets you advertise your videos without using Google Ads directly.

  • Easy Setup: The Promotions feature makes it simple to set up ads. Just select your video, define your audience, set your budget, and launch your campaign in a few steps.

  • Targeted Reach: Use targeting options to reach your audience by country and language. This helps your videos get seen by the right people, boosting engagement and growth.

  • Performance Insights: Track your promotions' performance in YouTube Studio. Monitor views, watch time, and engagement to see how effective your ads are.

YouTube Promotions are available for channels with Advanced features and over 1,000 subscribers. They help you grow views and subscribers faster, increase sales, or reach specific audiences. However, gains from ads don't count towards YouTube Partner Program eligibility.

Using YouTube Studio's promotion area helps you highlight specific videos, attract more viewers, and boost engagement on your channel.

4. Track Ad Performance and Audience Engagement

Track Ad Performance and Audience Engagement

Engaging with your audience is very important. You've worked hard to build a community, so when someone asks a question, it's nice to answer. It shows others that you're there to help. When I got my first comment, I was excited. Now, with over 16,000 subscribers, I still try to answer every question or comment. I want to be helpful and let people know I'm here to assist. After all, I started this to educate and inspire, and a little engagement boosts brand awareness and recognition.

Regularly analyzing your channels performance is key for improvement.

Here is how:

  • YouTube Analytics: Track key metrics like watch time, audience retention, and subscriber growth.
  • Google Ads Reports: If you're running YouTube ads, use Google Ads reports to measure ad performance and ROI.
  • Feedback Loop: Collect feedback from your audience through comments and surveys to understand their preferences.

Also, analyze where viewers stop watching and understand why. Identify which videos are gaining you subscribers; YouTube Studio’s Analytics and Advanced Mode can show you this clearly.

Create more content similar to what works well and use viewing behavior data to improve your videos. This approach also helps with SEO, as making videos that answer search queries can drive more views.

5. Optimize Your Organic Video Content

Optimize Your Organic Video Content

This tip might not directly boost your YouTube ads, but optimizing your organic video content is crucial for attracting and keeping viewers from your ads.

Here are some best tips:

  • Create Compelling Thumbnails: Make eye-catching thumbnails that reflect your video's content. Tools like Fotor are great for this, especially if you don't have Photoshop skills. Fotor lets you easily remove backgrounds, add text overlays, and find your channel's style. Their templates can increase click-through rates (CTR).

  • Write SEO-Friendly Descriptions and Titles: Use detailed descriptions with relevant keywords to improve searchability. For titles, try to answer a question your audience might have.

  • Use Engaging Introductions: Start your videos with a hook to grab viewers' attention. For example: "Hey everyone! Welcome back to our channel. Today, we’re diving into the top five strategies to skyrocket your YouTube growth. If you’re ready to boost your channel and reach new heights, you’re in the right place. Let’s get started!"

  • Summarize Your Video: Summarize your video to reinforce the main points and provide closure. This keeps viewers engaged and more likely to return.

  • Include Clear Calls to Action: Ask viewers to like, comment, and subscribe. This increases engagement and helps grow your audience.

Optimizing your video content boosts your channel’s visibility and encourages viewer interaction.

Also, check out the Inspiration tab in YouTube Studio. Go to Analytics, then Inspiration. Here, you can see what people who watch your videos are searching for on YouTube. This helps you cater to your existing viewers.

When I started my YouTube channel, I mostly made videos about conversion tracking and Google Tag Manager. I needed more ideas to keep up my goal of posting at least one video a week. So, I checked the Inspiration area and saw that people were searching for “how to create a Gmail account.” I thought, “easy enough,” and made a screen share video showing how to create a Gmail account.

I titled it “How to Create a Gmail Account – Step-by-Step Tutorial for Beginners 📥 #gmail #google #digital.” This title, along with the right icon and tags, wasn’t just fluff. It became my best-performing video for a long time, getting over 30,000 views organically in a short period. You can see the increase in views in YouTube Studio when it was indexed by Google.
